Radar is ( radio detecting and ranging ) used to detect distant objects by receiving radio waves that were reflected from the object. During World War II, more often than not ,battles were won by the side that was first to spot enemy airplanes, ships, or submarines. Using radar both sides could see for hundreds of miles, even at night.
Aircraft Carriers
Aircraft carriers formed a part of fast carrier force they were able to strike long and hard at the enemy. They were heavily defended by destroyers and often fast powerful battleships. Allies lost 9 aircraft carriers during World War II. The primary goal of the aircraft carrier was to bring airplanes closer to distant battles and recover surviving aircraft's. They would carry thousands of sailors and 30 aircraft's.
Medical Advances
New medical advances were created due to the new weaponry made between 1939-1945. Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. Recognizing the new medicines potential, the U.S. government ordered 19 different companies to us the new antibiotic. A known Dr. Drew set up a blood bank in a medical center located in Columbia. He discovered that blood plasma could replace whole blood. This discovery played a major role during World War II where many countries experienced extreme casualties. Leaving soldiers in need for blood.
